Meet Mathijs - Service desk employee at Xafax ICT

Tell me, who are you?

I am Mathijs, 20 years old and have just started my ICT career at Xafax as a Service Desk Employee. From August I will be following a BBL course in 'expert-it systems and devices'.

You have just started at Xafax, how were your first weeks?

My first weeks went well. When I started working here, I was immediately allowed to answer the phone. For me this felt like a pretty big step, as I was not used to something like that yet. Fortunately, I have good colleagues to whom I can ask questions if necessary, which made answering the phone a lot easier.

Where does your interest in technology come from?

My interest in technology started when I was little. Like many people, I started gaming and found electronics fascinating. When I got older I started hosting servers for games for me and my friends. The more I did those kinds of projects, the more I started to enjoy the technique.

Which tech websites do you like to read?

I hardly read things on tech websites myself, I only do this when I am solving problems. I do watch quite a lot of tech stuff on YouTube, for example Linus Tech Tips. I watch videos almost every day about summaries of things happening in the tech industry.

What IT development are you looking forward to?

I find this quite a difficult question, because so many things happen in IT. Perhaps a development I am looking forward to is battery technology. The better the batteries become, the more convenient it is. Cars and bicycles can travel further than before, telephones and laptops last longer and you could then store solar energy and use it yourself later, which makes solar panels a lot more logical.

What position would you like to fulfill in the future or what work would you prefer to do?

Actually, I don't really know the answer to this. I'm just starting to work in IT, so I don't really have experience working in practice, so considering work becomes quite difficult. For now, my job at Xafax ICT is fine and I don't feel the need to change positions.

What qualities do you have that are useful in the IT world?

Qualities that are useful for the IT world are being able to research well and Google things. Furthermore, being able to communicate well with people is also important, but this characteristic is useful for many more things than just IT.

Where can you be found in your spare time?

I often just sit quietly at home, like many people. I like watching movies and series and I still like electronics, but when I'm not doing that, I'm most likely doing something fun with friends.

Finally...

  • Last electronic purchase?
Electric bicycle, so that I can more easily cover the long distance from work to home.

  • Singleplayer or Multiplayer or CoOp?
When I play alone single player with friends multiplayer or CoOp.

  • iOS or Android?
Both, iOS is stable and always works, Android is more open, so you can often do more with it and personalize it.

  • WhatsApp or Signal?
Whatsapp since no one I know uses Signal.

  • Pay with a bank card or telephone/watch?
    Telephone, that's just faster

  • Which technical device do you use most at home?
    That's my phone after all.
