OneDrive support ends for old Windows versions

Microsoft has announced that from March 2022, OneDrive will no longer be supported on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. This eliminates the ability to automatically sync local data with the cloud .

OneDrive updates will also only be available to users of Windows 10 and 11 from March 2022. However, users of older versions will still have access to OneDrive files, but it is no longer possible to automatically synchronize local data with the cloud. takes away one of OneDrive's biggest advantages.

Time for an upgrade

The reason OneDrive will no longer be supported is because Microsoft wants to focus all its energy on the new versions of Windows, says a Microsoft spokesperson. This is to give users an up-to-date and secure experience with these new versions. This does not include OneDrive support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Therefore, the software company recommends updating to Windows 10 or 11 to avoid possible problems with OneDrive.

This news follows shortly after Microsoft ended Windows 7 support. For this reason, more and more people are being advised to switch to the newer versions. If you switch to Windows 10, this will be supported until 2025, according to Microsoft. If you want to make a long-term switch, upgrading to Windows 11 is a more logical step. Your device must be eligible for this.
