Meet: Mark Metzelaar - Director of Xafax Visuals

At the beginning of this year we announced the acquisition of InfoWorks Automatisering and thus the start of Xafax Visuals. We are now several months further. So it's high time for an introduction to the face behind Xafax Visuals: Mark Metzelaar.

Who are you?

I am Mark Metzelaar. I am 32 years old and general manager and co-owner at Xafax Visuals. Before this I worked for InfoWorks. The takeover by Xafax was communicated in January, but we were already working on it behind the scenes in June last year, a day after my wedding day!

What are your hobbies?

My biggest hobby is water polo. I do that at De Reuring in Langedijk. I also like watching films and series, such as Jack Ryan or Jason Bourne. I also enjoy flying a drone, especially for photography or mapping. That is the affinity with technology and gadgets that then emerges.

What does your task package consist of?

As general manager I have to keep the company on track. I actually always wear a different hat. Sometimes I do sales, sometimes logistics, but I also regularly delve into assembly. I like that, because it is enlightening. When assembling our products you encounter the end user. In schools, for example, these are teachers. I often hear very interesting feedback and information from them.

Can you tell us something about the collaboration with Xafax? How did that come about?

The owner of InfoWorks, Walter, quit. Then I was asked to take over the company. I had been working there for quite some time and was interested in it. At the same time, I had no experience at all in running an organization. That is why I was looking for an experienced partner who is familiar with ICT and who could guide me in the field of management. Ultimately, we found a very good party with Xafax.

Why did you choose Xafax?

Xafax is a great company in the area, with strong services and years of experience. The people of Xafax have a typical West Frisian mentality. Down to earth and hardworking. That is something I can also relate to. Actually we clicked immediately.

How is the collaboration going so far?

That's great. We immediately moved into the building at Xafax. Of course you get a lot of impressions in the beginning, but we really ended up in a warm bath. Super hospitable, friendly and helpful colleagues. You really notice that there is a team spirit. From the programmer to the buyer, everyone is keen to move forward together.

What do customers actually notice about the takeover?

Not much besides the name change. I was already the contact person for many customers. What is a big advantage for customers is that we now have a larger team. This allows us to offer our services even more professionally. In addition, as Xafax we can offer a wide range of products, deliver customization and be a single point of contact.

What is your goal for the future?

I can say that we want to become the biggest or most famous, but I think that is the wrong approach. I would like to be able to serve our customers even better and more professionally. Ultimately, we are there for them and for the next generation they train.

What do you like most about your job? You can only choose one.

Annoying. There's a lot to like. Ultimately, positive feedback from the customer is the best thing. This usually happens immediately after installation of one of our products or after training. That's what you do it for. Then I know that our products are in the right place and that people are happy with them. That makes me very happy myself.
